Dr. Shlash grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. After college, she returned to her home state where she received her dental degree from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. She continued her training at the dental school, completing a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency and a three-year residency in Orthodontics. While she was a resident, she also obtained a Master in Public Health Degree, as she is interested in improving public policy for dental and orthodontic health. To further these goals, she is an active member of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists, the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontics, and the American Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Shlash currently enjoys the urban life, living in downtown Baltimore with her husband, Sammy, a Johns Hopkins cardiologist. In her free time, she enjoys traveling around the world, and regularly participates in outdoor activities, including biking, swimming, hiking, and volleyball.
